Although cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has proven effective for many patients with eating disorders and is usually recommended as the first line of treatment, it does not work for everyone. This has led researchers to look for other treatments that may work for patients who do not respond to CBT. Specialists in eating disorders who learned about DBT drew an analogy between the function of eating disorders, behaviors in eating disorder patients and the function of self-injury in borderline personality disorder patients. Both types of behaviors tend to provide temporary relief from negative emotions. Thus, teaching patients how to regulate and manage effect makes sense. The results have been promising as the treatment does appear effective in slowing or stopping problematic behaviors in eating disorders. However, most of the research that has been done hasnt compared dialectical behavior therapy to other treatments (or to no treatment at all). The one study that compared DBT to active comparison group therapy for  binge eating  found no real differencesâ€"both treatments worked equally well. Most of the studies conducted on dialectical behavior therapy looked at treating people with binge-eating disorder and bulimia nervosa, not  anorexia nervosa. Who Should Try Dialectical Behavior Therapy? In fact, it is exactly the ‘new-learning’ of Faustus which leads him into the pact with Mephistopheles: â€Å"What God can hurt thee, Faustus? Thou art safe† proves to be almost the exact sentiments and ‘delusions’ which Satan utters in his tempting of Eve in ‘Paradise Lost’, the latter of whom musing: â€Å"What fear I then, rather what know to fear/Under this ignorance of good and evil/ Of God or death, of law or penalty?† Therefore both authors, in these instances, present the fall of both Eve and Faustus as being born of ignorance, exacerbated by the figures of Satan and Mephistopheles accordingly: so-called ‘Aristotelian Epideictic’. Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’, on the other hand, contains more entities to which the blame of death entering the world can be attributed: Adam, Eve, God and Satan. The most obvious scapegoat, however, comes in the form of the first woman, Eve: â€Å"Forth reaching to the fruit she plucked, she eat:/Earth felt the wound.† This one momentous act, both in the context of religion and literature, is, in the short term, undeniably the fault of the vanity and malleability of Eve. In terms of the long term, Milton offers clues to a ‘chain of events’, with God and Satan at the heart, which led to the fall, an idea which is given credence by the structure of the work: â€Å"Back to the thicket slunk/The guilty serpent.† This seemingly insignificant passing incrimination holds vast philosophical meaning: what does Milton mean by â€Å"guilty†? In stanza 4 the regret is brought to light with a metrical device. â€Å"Sigh† is an onomatopoeia that emphasizes the characters regret or relief. That one word makes the reader want to go back and reread the poem to make sure the theme is understood. The traveler is either regretting his decision that he made or he is relieved that he made the best choice for himself. It is left up to the reader’s interpretation to discover what the poet was trying to say. Some other metrical devices used are imagery, symbolism, personification, rhyming, alliteration, and allegory. The reader is presented with imagery in â€Å"two roads diverged in a yellow wood† and again in â€Å"And both that morning equally lay in leaves no step had trodden black†. In many situations one may question whether it is morally correct to follow the norms of society or their own virtues. Sometimes the ways of society can get in the way of an individual’s own beliefs. The term positive isnt used to imply that economists always convey good news, of course, and economists often make very, well, negative-positive statements. Positive analysis, accordingly, uses scientific principles to arrive at objective, testable conclusions. Normative Analysis On the other hand, economists refer to prescriptive, value-based statements as normative statements. Normative statements usually use factual evidence as support, but they are not by themselves factual. Instead, they incorporate the opinions and underlying morals and standards of those people making the statements. Normative analysis refers to the process of making recommendations about what action should be taken or taking a particular viewpoint on a topic. Examples of Positive vs. Normative The distinction between positive and normative statements is easily shown via examples. The statement: The unemployment rate is currently at 9 percent. is a positive statement, since it conveys factual, testable information about the world. Statements such as: The unemployment rate is too high.The government must take action in order to reduce the unemployment rate. are normative statements, since they include value judgments and are of a prescriptive nature. Its important to understand that, despite the fact that the two normative statements above are intuitively related to the positive statement, they cannot be logically inferred from the objective information provided. (In other words, they dont have to be true given that the unemployment rate is at 9 percent.) How to Effectively Disagree With an Economist People seem to like disagreeing with economists (and, in fact, economists often seem to enjoy disagreeing with one another), so its important to understand the distinction between positive and normative in order to disagree effectively. To disagree with a positive statement, one must bring other facts to the table or question the economists methodology. In order to disagree with the positive statement about unemployment above, for example, one would have to make the case that the unemployment rate isnt actually 9 percent. One could do this either by providing different unemployment data or by performing different calculations on the original data. To disagree with a normative statement, one can either dispute the validity of the positive information used to reach the value judgment or can argue the merits of the normative conclusion itself. This becomes a more murky type of debate  since there is no objective right and wrong when it comes to normative statements. In a perfectly organized world, economists would be pure scientists who perform only positive analysis and exclusively convey factual, scientific conclusions, and policymakers and consultants would take the positive statements and develop normative recommendations. In reality, however, economists often play both of these roles, so its important to be able to distinguish fact from opinion, i.e. positive from normative.

I copied a movie onto a DVD.    Here are examples of questionable preposition usage: Incorrect: Embed the HD videos you  create onto  your personal or professional websites to help bolster your reputation. Correct : Embed the HD videos you  create in  your personal or professional websites to help bolster your reputation. The use of onto with embed appears to be very common in the context of transferring files from one medium to another, but this usage disregards the meaning of embed: â€Å"to fix firmly in a surrounding mass of some solid material.† For example, a fossil may be found embedded in a layer of rock. A YouTube video may be embedded in a web page, but not on one. Incorrect: If you  want to copy on  the same volume, use the Finder  File.   Correct : If you want to copy to (or onto) the same volume, use the Finder File. Movies are copied to tape or disk. Once copied, they are on the tape or the disk. Incorrect: I am hoping to save a font from one computer onto my USB drive and transfer it to another computer. Correct : I am hoping to save a font from one computer on my USB drive and transfer it to another computer. Although Monica had acknowledged the need to advertise her products, she did not use an appropriate media. Monica could have advertised her products on the radio in order to reach many people. The main customer of her food products are the local people and therefore the business could have done better with a direct sales approach and a Monica considered several strategies that she could have applied in order to improve the performance of her business. Joining a franchise chain was one of her possible development strategies.
